Stop thieves from kicking their way into your property.
Through a discussion with my local crime prevention officer, I found out that many of the theft investigations he conducted started with a burglar just trying the door knob on the front or back doors. He indicated that it was amazing the number of break-ins that could have been prevented if the door was just locked. Common sense, right?
Well, I recently met Alan Young, a seasoned residential real estate investor who had break-in problems with properties he was renovating. Alan provided a couple of interesting statistics that supported my earlier discussion with the crime prevention officer. Did you know:
- 85% of forced entries are through a door.
- It takes less than 10 seconds to kick in a door.
Learning this firsthand and seeing what looked like securely locked doors kicked-in, Alan took steps to prevent further break-ins at his properties. Armor Concepts is his way of sharing what he’s learned with other investors and the public in general.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Even if securely locked, a well-placed kick can break the door and/or the door jamb and provide easy access to the interior of your investment property. Armor Concepts Door Armor Max product uses metal strips to reinforce the door jamb, hinges and door latch and locks. The metal strips are secured with longer anchoring screws that spread out the force of a kick to the door. These door reinforcements are shaped to wrap around the door, fit neatly on an already installed door and are barely noticeable. You secure this product with longer screws (provided). You now have a secure door that is resistant to being kicked in providing security to occupied and vacant homes.
HOW GOOD IS IT REALLY?
There are multiple videos on the web that show people trying to break-in doors equipped with Door Armor MAX using their foot, a battering ram and a sledge hammer and still not being able to get in the door. Armor Concepts has a warranty where they will pay up to $500 if the product fails to prevent a kick-in when correctly installed.
IS IT UGLY?
Door Armor MAX comes in a variety of colors, so you can chose which looks best to you and it’s really not that visible when the door is closed, showing maybe a ¼ inch of the product.
WHAT KEEPS THE BAD GUYS FROM BREAKING A WINDOW?
Nothing. This product is for doors where thieves are most likely to try to break in first. If you have a vacant house you probably already have the windows boarded-up anyways. Any determined thief may eventually find his way in. We just want them to give up easily and move down the block.
WHAT IF MY DOOR JAMB HAS ALREADY BEEN BROKEN DURING A BREAK-IN?
You can use Door Armor MAX to repair the broken jamb and now your door is more secure – even if they come back a second time!
I ALREADY HAVE AN ALARM. WHY DO I NEED Door Armor MAX?
Having an alarm is great, but the alarm sounds only after the door is already kicked-in and the thieves are already in your house. Home security is not a one-item solution. Security is best when provided in layers. An alarm is one layer, Door Armor MAX is an additional layer.
I HAVE A SLIDING GLASS DOOR THAT I NEED TO SECURE. IS THERE A PRODUCT FOR THAT?
Armor Latch is designed to keep thieves from lifting sliding glass doors out of their tracks.
